The Other Investigation
The Federal money laundering investigation that resulted in the Las Vegas Sands reaching a settlement of approximately $47 million with the U.S. Justice Department is not the only federal probe involving the company.
The Sands, which is a driving force behind efforts to legalize casino gambling in Florida, is also under investigation by the feds under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. According to news accounts of the Sands’ SEC filings earlier this year, the company acknowledged that it had “likely” violated certain provisions of the Act.
